Scope and Content: The Advertising Club of St. Louis Collection contains the Advertising Club of St. Louis’ archive that was donated on October 31, 2013, including the groups papers—rosters, financial statements, meeting minutes (June 1915-1991; April 1992-Summer 1994)—, member photos, issues of the Ad Club magazine (Oct 5, 1925-1985), and Addy Award documents. Memorabilia such as the gavel and Ad Club seal are also part of the collection.
The idea of having a national association for advertising was conceived in St. Louis and born in Chicago. The Advertising Club of Saint Louis was original founded as the Advertising Men’s League (aka The Asbestos Club) who held their first meeting on March 1, 1901 at their downtown quarters on Seventh and Pine. The Ad Club is St. Louis’ official advertising and marketing industry organization and a top source for advertising and marketing information, events, networking opportunities, and careers since its establishment. On June 1, 1988 the Advertising Club of Greater Saint Louis and the Advertising Federation of Saint Louis combined to form the Ad Club of Saint Louis, which is now an affiliate of the American Advertising Federation (AAF).
