Those I Hold Dear | Artist Mimi C. Huang | September 1-30 |  Artist Mimi C. Huang presents 11 figurative and portrait paintings in oil and watercolor that honor the people who shape her inner and shared world—family members, friends, studio models, and individuals whose presence reflects quiet moral courage. To hold someone dear, in this exhibition, is an act of care: a deliberate pause, an attentive gaze, a recognition of another’s quiet radiance. Huang is a St. Louis–based artist who has lived in the area since 1987. Trained as an art historian, she brings both scholarly insight and personal conviction to her painting practice. A former staff member of the Saint Louis Art Museum, her engagement with art history continues to inform her work. Huang focuses on portraiture and the human figure, exploring psychological presence through attentive observation and expressive handling of paint. |
In the Gallery | Glimpses into an Urban Garden | Artist Roxanne McWilliams | September 1-30 |  Roxane McWilliams is a multi-disciplinary artist and educator based in St. Louis. She began her exploration into photography a decade ago as a way to capture the color and movement of the natural world. When searching for a subject with her camera, she is drawn to the complexity and delicate beauty of the small things that often pass unnoticed. She uses her camera lens to create a window to reveal these hidden aspects of our environment. When taking photos, Roxane captures the details and distinct perspectives of the plants and animals in her St. Louis City backyard. Her images reveal that even within urban environments there exist complex ecosystems. Her goal is to capture not only the beauty of the subjects but also their personality- those quirky characteristics that make them unique. In the Display Cases | Unbound | Artist Chrissy Hsieh | September 1-30 |  Chrissy Hsieh started working in ceramics in August 2022. Originally a physician and a lawyer, her creativity and passion for the arts exploded the first time she touched clay. She said, "I feel that with ceramics, the artist needs to relinquish part of the control to the will of the clay and the best pieces are formed when harmony and balance are achieved. Every piece I create stems from a basic concept that evolves during the process. Life is most precious when we least expect it." Hsieh signs jer art pieces with the Chinese character “戒” (pronounced as “jie”) which is the first virtue in Buddhist teaching which can be loosely translated as discipline. A native of Taiwan, her ceramic pieces often demonstrate the blending of the two cultures, balancing fearless expression with meditative harmony. Her work has been featured in Suboart Magazine and Artistonish Magazine, and has been shown in group exhibitions at ShockBoxx Gallery, Pence Gallery, Las Laguna Art Gallery, Red Bluff Art Gallery, Mana Los Angeles, TAG Los Angeles, Covet Art Gallery, bG Gallery, Palm Springs Modernism Art Fair, Scottsdale Ferrari Art Week, ADC Fine Art, Mark Arts, Artlink Contemporary Gallery, Craft Alliance, Intersect Palm Springs, Inaugural Salt Lake Art Show, Miami Red Dot/Miami Art Week, and in a solo exhibition at TAG Los Angeles.Instagram: @jie_ceramics |
