Adult Reading Challenge

Join SLPL's 2023 Adult Reading Challenge. Each month, complete the two reading challenges listed below to advance to the next month. Sign up online or stop by any location to pick up a reading log to track your progress. Once completed, return your reading log to any SLPL location.

START A NEW CHALLENGE

JANUARY
Challenge 1: New Year, New Genre. Read a genre you do
not typically read.
Challenge 2: Read an author’s debut book.

FEBRUARY
Challenge 3: Read a book on empowerment.
Challenge 4: Great Backyard Bird Count: Read a bird-
themed book.

MARCH
Challenge 5: Explore a new hobby, art or craft.
Challenge 6: Get your groove on! Read a book with a
music theme.

APRIL
Challenge 7: April Fool’s Day- Read a comedy!
Challenge 8: Read a book on gardens and gardening.

MAY
Challenge 9: May the 4th be with you! Read a book with
4 in the title.
Challenge 10: Read a graphic novel or a manga.

GIVE BACK TO READING

JUNE
Challenge 11: Read a book with an LGBT+ character.
Challenge 12: Read a book that has been made into
a movie.

JULY
Challenge 13: Read a book with a summer theme.
Challenge 14: Read a thriller by an author of color.

AUGUST
Challenge 15: Read a book with a dog theme for National
Dog Month.
Challenge 16: Read a book everyone talks about, but you
have never read.

MASTER THE CHALLENGE

SEPTEMBER
Challenge 17: Read a young adult novel.
Challenge 18: Read a book set in a school or university.

OCTOBER
Challenge 19: Read a book with a paranormal theme.
Challenge 20: Read a fairytale retelling.

NOVEMBER
Challenge 21: Read a book by a Native American Author.
Challenge 22: Read a food-themed novel.

DECEMBER
Challenge 23: Read a book about family.
Challenge 24: Read a book about holidays.

MONTHLY PRIZES
Every adult reader who finishes each month’s challenge
will be entered into a random drawing for one of

GRAND PRIZES
January-May: Every adult reader who finished all the
challenges will be entered into a drawing for an SLPL
umbrella.
June-August: For every adult reader who finished all
the challenges, SLPL will give a child a book for their
home library.
September-December: Every adult reader who finished
all the challenges will be invited to an after-hours tour
of Central Library. Date and time to be determined.

SPECIAL GRAND PRIZE
Every adult reader who finished all the challenges will
be entered into a random drawing for one of each of
the monthly prizes.
