2025 Requests for Reconsideration

02/2025: The Library received a request to reconsider the online service Hoopla because of its use of AI-produced materials and lack of quality control over some books and materials provided online. This issue has brought about widespread attention and discussion in professional circles. After internal study and discussion, the Library has decided to maintain Hoopla as a source because of the company’s promise to update their collection development policy, a commitment to removing poor-quality AI-generated content from specific publishers and authors, and offering libraries tailored management options. Hoopla allows the Library to serve an extensive customer demand, and provides access to materials unavailable elsewhere.  The Library continues to study the issue with the goal of providing high-quality materials from a wide variety of sources.

09/2025: The Library received a request to reconsider the age-level designation for the graphic novel, 10 Little Insects, by Davide Cali. The requester noted that while the author's work is generally considered appropriate for juveniles, this specific title contains mature content and themes. After a careful review against the Collection Development Policy, we agreed with the concern. The material, which is an adaptation of an adult murder mystery, features a narrative and complexity determined to be better suited for an older audience, and professional reviews from authoritative sources specifically recommend the title for older readers. As a result, we have moved 10 Little Insects from the Children's Graphic Novel collection to the Teen Graphic Novel collection.
