The St. Louis Public Library (SLPL) invites young explorers across the city to embark on a mythical adventure with the launch of "SLPL Creature Quest," a system-wide reading challenge running from September 1, 2026, to May 15, 2027.
Designed for kids and teens ages 5-18, SLPL Creature Quest turns the love of reading into a dynamic adventure. Whether searching the skies for dragons or the ground for bigfoot prints, participants will collect unique Creature Cards by hitting reading milestones.
SLPL Creature Quest is designed to spark the curiosity and wonder in our young readers. By gamifying the reading experience with these collectible cards, it encourages families to keep reading throughout the school year in a fun, engaging way.
How to Play:
- Track Your Reading: Participants read for 20 minutes to check off a box on their paper Reading Tracker or online via the Beanstack Tracker App.
- Collect Cards: After checking off a row of boxes, participants earn a Creature Card. A total of 36 unique cards will be available throughout the challenge, with four new designs released each month.
- Enter the Raffle: For every Creature Card earned, participants receive an entry into a grand prize raffle, with winners announced following the end of the quest in May. Prizes for the grand raffle include passes to the City Museum, Union Station and Six Flags.
Participants do not need a library card to join the quest, and reading materials—including print books, digital books and audiobooks—do not need to be borrowed from the Library to count toward the goal. Paper trackers are available at all SLPL locations and logging can be done digitally via Beanstack.
Support for the SLPL Creature Quest is provided by the St. Louis Public Library Foundation.

Also commonly referred to as "Sasquatch," there have been reported Bigfoot sightings in every state in the USA except Hawaii.
