The following St. Louis Public Library locations are open with limited hours and services: Baden, Barr, Buder, Carondelet, Carpenter, Central, Charing Cross, Julia Davis, Kingshighway, Machacek, Marketplace, Schlafly and Walnut Park.
Hours of service are:
Monday and Tuesday, 11 a.m. - 5 p.m.
Wednesday and Thursday, 1 - 7 p.m.
Friday and Saturday, 11 a.m. - 5 p.m.
Central Express is open Monday through Friday from 11 a.m. - 5 p.m.
NOTE: Cabanne Library and Divoll Library remain closed for repairs.
- Curbside Pickup is available at all open locations except Central Express, Charing Cross and Marketplace.
Can I browse the shelves?
Customers can browse the shelves for up to 30 minutes. Seating areas and meeting rooms will be closed.
Can I reserve a computer?
Customers may use public computers for up to an hour a day. Reservations can be made in advance. For reservations call 241-2288.
Do I need to wear a face mask?
Customers who are five (5) years of age and older (updated Aug. 14, 2020) must wear face masks in all Library buildings. Staff will also be wearing masks.
What about social distancing?
Customers and staff will be expected to practice social distancing.
Are returned materials being quarantined?
All returned materials are being quarantined for 96 hours (4 days). These items will remain on your record during this time, but you will never be charged any overdue fines.
Can I pay for a lost or damaged item?
We are not handling any cash or credit card transactions at the desks at this time. Customers can make payments through our website or mobile app.
Now that my nearest Library is open, I would like my holds held there. Can I get them transferred?
Yes, we can send your holds to whichever Library location you prefer. Just give us a call and we will take care of that for you.
I would like to pick up my holds, but not come into a building. I usually ride my bike to the Library. Can I do that?
Yes, we are offering curbside pickup at most of our locations. You can either drive up, pedal up, or walk-up; call to let the staff know you are there, and they will bring your materials out to you.
How do I renew my library card?
You will need Identification that shows your name and current address to renew your SLPL Library card. Cards can be renewed in person at any of our locations or by email. To renew in person, present your identification to Library staff at the checkout desk.To renew by email, send a photo or PDF of your identification to email@example.com., opens a new window Cards for children under 18 can be renewed in person or by email. I need to print a document. Can I still do that?
Yes, you can still do so using our mobile print services. Go to mobileprint.slpl.org and follow the instructions. Your document can be picked up through our curbside service or inside your Library location.
What is the appointment process for using the Special Collections Floor at Central Library?
The Special Collections Floor (3rd floor) of Central Library is open in Phase 2 by appointment only. We are unable to accommodate walk-in appointments at this time as we want to be able to thoroughly clean between customers, have materials paged for customers in order to maximize their research time, and to schedule staff so they are safely socially distanced. We can, and are most happy to, take same-day appointments providing slots are available.
Customers wishing to make an appointment may send their request via email to firstname.lastname@example.org or by calling 314-241-2288. Appointments are available for 1 hour in duration and there can be one appointment per room, per hour. There may be up to 2 people in an appointment group. Seating is available for customers with research appointments.
