Young children don’t learn just by reading. They learn by playing too. In fact, it has been said that “Play is the work of young child.”
Book Boxes – a small collection of themed books, toys and learning materials– are now available at Central Library and Buder Branch to provide parents and teachers with some of the games and toys that will help their children learn.
Originally created using grant funds, the boxes were heavily used by teachers, homeschoolers and parents. Over the past few months, the boxes have been refurbished and refreshed, with fresh puppets, puzzles, games and toys and a selection of picture books and easy nonfiction. There are now fewer items in each box – so the boxes are smaller and more easily transported.
There are 47 titles on everything from dentists to dinosaurs, friendship, food and flowers, pets and pollution.
Book Boxes can be sent to any SLPL Branch. To place a Book Box on hold, search the catalog for Book Box and submit your request.
Also, inquire at Central and Buder about individual toys parents can borrow.
