Your Library Podcast: S1E3: Tech for Tots

In our third episode of Your Library Podcast, we visit Buder Library and join Regional Youth Librarian, Krista Rakers, during the Tech for Tots program. Tech for Tots provides children with an opportunity to learn the basics of coding while having fun using the robots Code-a-pillar and Dash & Dot. By playing with code, children develop important skills such as critical thinking, problem-solving, and persistence.  

We also hear from SLPL PR Manager Jen Hatton for another Did You Know to discuss our monthly concert series Not So Quiet. Join us the third Thursday of every month from February through December for a free concert! Technology Services Manager Jon Drakesmith returns for Tech Talk and shares some cybersecurity tips and advice on how you can stay safe online.

Next, we hear about Makerspace Jr. from Central Youth Services Specialist Tiger Reed. Makerspace Jr. is a program for kids that takes place every Monday from 4pm-5pm in Creative Experience at Central Library. It is a time where kids can experiment and explore using different tech toys in digital collaborative spaces. 

Later, we hear from Chris LaBarbera, Librarian in the Entertainment, Literature, and Biography Room at Central Library. Chris shares some of her favorite resources available for writers. Finally, we hear from Your Library Podcast's very own Honna Veerkamp, Creative Experience Specialist. On November 28, Honna will lead an Intro to Podcasting workshop in Creative Experience at Central Library. The workshop will cover the basics of recording, editing, distributing a podcast with hands-on practice using the software and resources available in Creative Experience.
