Your Library Podcast S1E1: Step For Fitness

Every Tuesday a group of dancers comes together for Step for Fitness at Schlafly Library. This modern step-dance class has been happening at the library for over a decade, and a close-knit group of regulars shows up each week for exercise, fellowship, and fun. Many of these dancers describe the group as a family, but they welcome newcomers and are always ready to lead you through the steps and make you feel at home. Your Library Podcast visited Schlafly to check it out. Step for Fitness takes place every Thursday from 6-8pm.

In this inaugural episode of Your Library Podcast, we launch a series called Did You Know with SLPL PR Manager Jen Hatton highlighting Library resources that might be new to you. In this episode, we hear about architectural docent-led tours at Central Library. (Check out Episode 2 of Your Library Podcast for more, when we bring you an audio tour of Central Library!) This episode also launches Tech Talk from The Library's Technical Services department. In this show, Tech Services Director Jon Drakesmith tells us about Chromebooks that patrons can reserve.

Your Library Podcast is produced in Creative Experience, a digital makerspace at Central Library. On this program, Central Teen Services Provider Bradley Hoffman joins us to talk about Makerspace Club, a weekly program for teens in Creative Experience.

Finally, Librarian Lisa Thorpe visited Creative Experience to tell us about the Social Sciences room she manages at Central Library, which includes most of the -ologies and -isms found in the Dewey 300s. Lisa showed off a collection of Very Short Introduction books that cover topics ranging from sociology and psychology to economics and the occult, and she also talked about the Grants and Foundation Center,  which is full of resources for individuals and nonprofits.
