Working at the White House

You can use the following search to locate persons who worked in the White House in the 1920 federal population census:

SEARCH—LIVED IN: District of Columbia, USA (Exact)
SEARCH—INDUSTRY: White House (Exact)

This search gets 52 results. Oddly enough, then-president Woodrow Wilson is NOT one of the results. To see his census listing, you can do this search:

SEARCH—LIVED IN: District of Columbia, USA (Exact)
SEARCH—INDUSTRY: Private estate (Exact)

President Woodrow Wilson (LOC.gov photo)
President Woodrow Wilson (LOC.gov photo)

President Wilson is Result No. 1.

You can also do a name search:

SEARCH—FIRST NAME/MIDDLE NAME: Woodrow (Exact)
SEARCH—LAST NAME: Wilson (Exact)
SEARCH—LIVED IN: District of Columbia, USA (Exact)

This search nets you Woodrow himself, plus four young boys surnamed Wilson whose parents evidently felt that the given name Woodrow was the cat’s meow!
