The recent death of Senator John McCain is helping to publicize the fact that several of our nation’s military academies have cemeteries on their grounds.
As it happens, you can search for burials in these military academy cemeteries in this Ancestry Library Edition (Ancestry LE) record collection:
U.S., Find a Grave Index, 1600s-Current
Records are available for these cemeteries:
United States Air Force Academy Cemetery
United States Military Academy Post Cemetery
United States Naval Academy Cemetery
Note: The Marine Corps is part of the U.S. Navy, so Marines can be buried at the Naval Academy Cemetery. The U.S. Coast Guard also reports to the Secretary of the Navy (but only during wartime).
Records for these other military cemeteries are also included, and may prove of interest:
Captain Ted Conaway Memorial Naval Cemetery (Portsmouth, VA)
Fort Stanton Merchant Marine and Military Cemetery (Fort Stanton, NM)
Marine Corps Air Station Cemetery (Havelock, NC)
U.S. Coast Guard Aviation Memorial (Elizabeth City, NC)
You can use Ancestry LE at Central Library or any of our branches.
