U.S., List of Interred Soldiers of the U.S. Army, 1827-1889

This record collection in Ancestry Library Edition (Ancestry LE) includes interment lists of U.S. Army personnel buried in U.S. cemeteries during the years 1827–1889. It can be used when applicable with a separate record collection in Ancestry LE:

U.S., Registers of Deaths in the Regular Army, 1860-1889

Headstones of unknown soldiers (NPS.gov photo)
Headstones of unknown soldiers (NPS.gov photo)

The List of Interred Soldiers only includes regulars, i.e., soldiers who enlisted directly in the federal army (state volunteer soldiers are not included). The List of Interred Soldiers can be searched using any of these delimiters:

Name
Death Date
Keyword
Military Unit
Cemetery
Rank
Regiment

I did this search:

DEATH DATE: 9 April 1865 (Exact)

It returned nine guys. Imagine that: you manage to survive 3 or 4 years of bloody Civil War, only to die on the day that Lee surrenders his army!

You may use Ancestry LE at Central Library or any of our branches.
