This record collection in Ancestry.com contains over 115,000 historical postcards that illustrate various places in the United States. These postcards were taken at various times by staff photographers of the Mary Martin Company of Perryville, Maryland. This record collection also provides the city, county, and state depicted for most postcards, plus an estimated creation date for undated postcards.
If you don’t have pictures of some of the places your ancestors lived, worked, or went to school, historical postcards may serve as a possible alternative to family photos.
This collection may also prove useful for persons interested in particular types of institutions or structures, since it is possible to search this record collection for keywords or words appearing in captions. Such words include but are not limited to:
Band or band stand
Theater or Theatre
Zoo or Zoological
You can do a keyword or caption search in combination with a state name (or name of a large city).
