U.S., Headstone and Interment Records for U.S. Military Cemeteries on Foreign Soil, 1942-1949

The American Battle Monuments Commission (ABMC) is responsible for 24 American cemeteries located in foreign countries. This collection in Ancestry.com includes ABMC burial cards for veterans buried in these cemeteries between 1942 and 1949 (most are 1942-1947).

The cards generally include name of the deceased, rank, branch of service, military unit, state of residence, date of death, service number, name of the cemetery and grave number, gender, race, creed, decorations, temporary cemetery information, and name and address of next of kin.

These burial cards cover only men and women for whom bodies were recovered. Persons enumerated on Tablets of the Missing in ABMC cemeteries do not appear in these records.
