You can search for particular individuals, and search results include this info:

Name
Rank
Unit Name
War

The search result also includes a View Record link to an image of the man’s service card. You should take a quick look, as the service card normally also includes the man’s rank in and out of service, as well as the name of the captain of his company.

You can also search using rank, unit, war, or keyword as your criteria, so you could (for example) create lists such as these:

Men holding the rank of cpl [corporal]
Men serving in units from the State of Illinois
Men serving in a particular unit

You can use Ancestry LE at Central Library or any of our branches.
