Student Nurses

It’s relatively easy to search for nurses in training in the 1930 U.S. population census.

In the bottom right corner of the Ancestry LE (Ancestry Library Edition) landing page (or midway on the Heritage Quest Online landing page), select 1930 from the U.S. Census box. Now try the following search (case does not matter):

SEARCH—LIVED IN: Missouri, USA (Exact)
SEARCH—KEYWORD: Student Nurse (Exact)
SEARCH—GENDER: Female

This search returns 1,385 results. The same search for other states returns these results:

IL 4,279
CA 2,699
NY 6,671
TX 1,701

You can also search for male nurses in training, and you will find some—but in much lesser numbers:

MO 9
IL 79
CA 78
NY 59
TX 37
