Staff Picks: The Fashion Committee

How far would you go to achieve your dreams?

This is the story of two art-obsessed teens:  Charlie is crazy for fashion while John works with metal to create sculptures and other art pieces.  Both have rather complicated home lives and neither can afford to go the extremely pricey and prestigious art school they dream of attending.  However, once a year the school has a competition for one scholarship and both enter.  This year’s theme?  Fashion, which John knows nothing about.  But if he can somehow fake his way into winning he can transfer to metal work later.  Who will win and how far will they go to make their dreams come true?

This very funny book is told through the alternating voices of Charlie and John in the form of the fashion journals they’re required to keep for the contest. Even if you know nothing about fashion it is still very entertaining and, after all, John doesn’t know anything about it either.  A (fairly) realistic look at two teens determined to achieve their goals, no matter what obstacles get in their way.
