Staff Pick: Necessary Noise

Necessary Noise is a compilation of stories about families, but not just the average type of families. The "average" nuclear family of a husband, wife, and two kids has become a rare sight these days. The meaning of family has definitely been altered over the years due to high divorce rates and possible remarriage or other life-altering circumstances. These are the types of families that all of the authors in this book write about.

This book does more than just teach us about different family dynamics such as dealing with half-siblings, broken homes, or even surrogate family members. Through the eyes of teens and young adults, we tackle a variety of tough topics such as understanding and loving one another despite vastly different world views. Dealing with family members with mental illness. Adjusting to families with an absent parent. Coping with the loss of a loved one. No family is perfect. All family may not be related by blood, but we must appreciate them and be there for the ones who are there for us.
