Shelby’s Raid (1863)

While Shelby’s Raid was national news at the time, it is remembered mainly by Civil War historians and re-enactors today. Given that this 1863 Confederate cavalry raid by Colonel Joseph O. Shelby lasted over 40 days and covered more than 800 miles of ground in Arkansas and Missouri, it seems astonishing that so few people (Missourians included) are aware of it.
