Scarlet is the second book in the Lunar Chronicles. In Scarlet, Cinder is trying to break out of prison where she has been placed by the vicious Lunar Queen, Levana. Before she escaped, Dr. Erland glamoured the guards and brought Cinder a replacement foot for her broken one. She manages to escape the prison when she meets Carswell Thorne. They team up to take Thorne’s ship away from the Commonwealth’s military. Cinder decides to go to France to meet the woman who brought her from Luna to Earth, Michelle Benoit. Michelle was a military pilot who had been part of a mission to Luna. There they meet Scarlet, Michelle’s granddaughter, and Wolf, a streetfighter. Michelle has kept many secrets from Scarlet which Scarlet finds out when she rescues her grandmother. For Scarlet to escape safely from the bioengineered soldiers of Luna, Michelle sacrifices herself. Scarlet and Wolf go with Cinder on the ship. Meanwhile, Queen Levana is threatening to attack Earth if Prince Kaito of the Commonwealth doesn’t agree to her marriage proposal. She plans to kill Kaito and take over the Earth. I recommend this book.
