Susie Ghahremani’s love of nature shines through her illustrations. She recalls going on hikes as a kid and using a journal to jot down thoughts and keep notes about her findings. She still uses this method to create and inspire her work today.
Susie Ghahremani has collaborated with Jennifer Ward, lending her nature-inspired illustrations to a number of Ward’s books, including What Will Hatch? and What Will Grow?. She also provided illustrations for Jennifer Ward’s parenting series, which includes It's A Jungle Out There!: 52 Nature Adventures for City Kids and Let's Go Outside!: Outdoor Activities and Projects to Get You and Your Kids Closer to Nature.
Susie Ghahremani’s most recent collaborator is the father of National Parks himself, John Muir. Her new book, Little Muir’s Song, is an exploration of Yosemite National Park that is narrated by Muir’s own journals. By depicting John Muir as a child, Ghahremani’s new book fosters the natural curiosity of young children.“I would love for children to feel excited to observe natural spaces wherever they have access to them,” she said in an interview with Voice of San Diego.
In addition to illustrating for authors, Susie Gharemani wrote and illustrated her first book, Stack the Cats in 2017. Ghahremani’s whimsical cats demonstrate math concepts like grouping, addition and subtraction in a playful way. Her follow up is Balance the Birds, where adorable birds must find balance in their tree, introducing young readers to equations.
A graduate of the Rhode Island School of Design, Susie Ghahremani’s work has been featured commercially by companies from Target to the Wall Street Journal, among many others. She also creates and develops her own line of stationary and gifts, Boygirlparty®.
Susie Ghahremani has long advocated against plagiarism in the art world. “I speak out about the issue because I want consumers and art lovers to be aware of their choices and the origins of the products they’re being sold,” Ghahremani said.
