Read It Forward: Yaqui Delgado Wants to Kick Your Ass

Read It Forward

Award-winning Yaqui Delgado Wants to Kick Your Ass by Meg Medina is the St. Louis Public Library’s fall 2017 Read It Forward title.  This novel is about teen bullying and the consequences of waiting too long before speaking up. Piddy Sanchez is a high school sophomore attending a new school where she becomes the target of the school bully Yaqui Delgado. Piddy suffers cruel treatment because she gets good grades, walks with a wiggle, and is not Latina enough. To avoid harassment from Yaqui and her group, Piddy stops going to school. Concerned that the bullying will intensify; Piddy refuses to confide in the adults in her life.

Meg Medina is an award-winning Cuban American author who writes picture books, middle grade, and young adult fiction. She will discuss the real events that inspired both of her young adult books and will explore the enduring impact of violence on teens who witness it.

Teens in grades 6-12 can get a free copy of Yaqui Delgado Wants to Kick Your Ass and meet author Meg Medina on November 20 at 7 p.m. at Central Library, 1301 Olive Street.
