Nebraska Resident Military Roster on June 1, 1891

This record collection in Ancestry Library Edition (Ancestry LE) is abstracted from a book entitled:

Roster of Soldiers, Sailors, and Marines of the War of 1812, the Mexico War, and the War of the Rebellion, residing in Nebraska June 1, 1891

The title pretty well says it all, in my opinion. It means that this book can serve two purposes:

1. Help you locate men/families who moved west after the Civil War
2. Serves as a (partial) substitute for the missing 1890 census

You can use this record collection to look for specific individuals. You can also use it to search for men who served in a particular regiment during the Civil War. For example, I attempted to locate men who served in the 89th Illinois Infantry Regiment. I used this search to do so (case does not matter):

KEYWORD: “89 Infantry” Illinois (Exact) 15 hits

You can also do a search for men who served in the U.S. Navy. I used this search to do so (case does not matter):

KEYWORD: “United States Navy” 431 hits

It is also possible to search for men who served in the U.S. Marine Corps:

COMPANY: “Marine Corps” 20 hits

You may use Ancestry LE at Central Library or any of our branches.
