Missouri State Hospital Cemeteries

Missouri maintains five long-term psychiatric care facilities in these cities:

    St. Louis
    Farmington
    Fulton
    Nevada
    St. Joseph
Missouri State Lunatic Asylum at Fulton ca. 1875 (sos.mo.gov)
Missouri State Lunatic Asylum at Fulton ca. 1875 (sos.mo.gov)

Records of the cemeteries attached to four of these facilities are searchable in Ancestry Library Edition (Ancestry LE) via the U.S., Find a Grave 1600s-Current Day record collection.

You can search for specific individuals, or you can do a general search for persons interred in these cemeteries:

• SEARCH—DEATH—LOCATION Missouri, USA (Exact to this place) CEMETERY state hospital (Exact)

You can also search for persons interred in a particular cemetery:

• SEARCH—DEATH—LOCATION Farmington, St. Francois, Missouri, USA (Exact to this place) CEMETERY state hospital (Exact)

• SEARCH—DEATH—LOCATION Fulton, Callaway, Missouri, USA (Exact to this place) CEMETERY state hospital (Exact)

• SEARCH—DEATH—LOCATION Nevada, Vernon, Missouri, USA (Exact to this place) CEMETERY state hospital (Exact)

• SEARCH—DEATH—LOCATION Saint Joseph, Buchanan, Missouri, USA (Exact to this place) CEMETERY state hospital (Exact)

Because health records can be difficult to access due to privacy concerns, these death/burial records for asylum patients should prove extremely useful for persons with a hospitalized ancestor.

You can use Ancestry LE at Central Library or any of our branches.
