On the Illinois State Archives website, you would need to search these record sources individually to find all listings for a particular soldier. Using this record collection in Ancestry LE, however, you can search all these record sources simultaneously.

Coverage includes soldiers who served in the Revolutionary War to the wars in Afghanistan and Iraq (but coverage is most complete for War of 1812 to Spanish-American War). Records referenced can include enlistment and service records, muster rolls, oral histories, records of soldiers’ homes, and burial records.

Search results include an abstract or transcription of the original record, plus a link to that record on the Illinois State Archives website. You can search for a particular individual, or you can use a number of search delimiters to do searches for soldiers meeting specific criteria:

    Birth
    Death
    Residence
    Any Event
    Keyword
    Marital Status
    Record Source
    War
    Muster In Date
    Muster Out Date
    Service Entry Date
    War Years
