"Let us all work together to help all human beings achieve dignity and equality;
to build a greener planet; and to make sure no one is left behind."
- UN Secretary-General, Ban Ki-moon
Today we observe the International Day of Peace, as declared by the United Nations General Assembly: “a day devoted to strengthening the ideals of peace, both within and among all nations and peoples” with the 2016 theme: “The Sustainable Development Goals: Building Blocks for Peace.”
The 193 U.N. member states unanimously adopted the 17 Sustainable Development Goals (below in graphic form, or click the link for the hip-hop video on YouTube) a year ago in September 2016, and the U.N. website declares them “integral to achieving peace in our time, as development and peace are interdependent and mutually reinforcing.”
We have many “peace” titles in the Social Sciences room (see below, or in our room take a look primarily at Dewey 303, but also 201 or 261), as well as books on sustainable development (338, or in the next room at 363) - come visit us, check them out, and let's all do our part to achieve peace in our time.
