Happy 50th, Star Trek!

New to the shelves in Social Sciences: Trekonomics - the Economics of Star Trek by Manu Saadia. Noting that "By a fortuitous coincidence of the calendar, 2016 is not only the fiftieth anniversary of Star Trek; it is also the five-hundredth anniversary of Thomas More's Utopia", the author proceeds to explore the economic utopia presented in the various Star Trek television and movie franchises.

Click above to see if the books are available or to place a hold/have the book delivered to your neighborhood branch. St. Louis Public Library is also a good source for many of the TV episodes and movies cited in Trekonomics - there is a handy list in the back of the book, as well as a "Further Reading" section which includes the topics "Economics and Political Science" (subjects that are in our room - see Dewey 320 and 330), "On Star Trek Shows," "Works about Star Trek" and more (so much to read, so little time!)

Live long and prosper!
