As mentioned in the previous post, it takes some time for a patent application to wend its way through the process. Those inventors with a greater sense of urgency may wish to fast track an application. The Leahy-Smith America Invents Act (AIA) established the Track One program, which provides for faster review and a shorter average pendency; 3 months and 7.8 months for first action and final disposition, respectively. There was an annual limit on how many applications were allowed, but the program has been so popular that the number of applications allowed was increased in September.
