David’s Essential Listens

Kids See Ghosts, Kids See Ghosts

Kids See Ghosts is easily one of my favorite albums from 2018. The duo of Kanye and Cudi accompanied by several other artists all combine to make a great album. Cudi’s vocals meld perfectly with Kanye’s production and verses, giving each track an undeniable energy. Kanye’s verse with Ty Dolla $ign and the strength of Cudi’s delivery on the chorus make Freeee my favorite among the short tracklist.

Selected Ambient Works 85-92, Aphex Twin

Coming from the prolific Richard D. James, Selected Ambient Works 85-92 is one of the most paramount projects in electronic music. Selected Ambient Works 85-92 is exactly what it sounds like, a collection of electronic ambient tracks recorded by James with some dating back to 1985 when he was 13 to 14 years old. If you’re looking to just straight up vibe, this is the perfect album.

IV, BadBadNotGood

I first listened to BadBadNotGood when I found their cover of She on Youtube, shortly after I was introduced to the rest of their discography. IV is definitely my favorite project from the nu jazz band, and in my opinion is their most cohesive work. I particularly enjoyed the vocal features from Charlotte Day Wilson and Sam Wilson. Overall, IV is a good contemporary jazz album that is worth giving a listen.
