Colorful Poetry and Reading Pays

Third, fourth and fifth grade classes at Gateway Elementary listened to a passage from SLPL’s spring Reading Pays – Pass it On! book, Cody and the Fountain of Happiness by Tricia Springstubb, and discussed the figurative language used by the author to describe Cody and Spencer’s feelings.  Students then had the opportunity to flex their poetry writing skills and use figurative language to describe a color.

Kids in grades 2-5 can get a free copy of Cody and the Fountain of Happiness at any SLPL branch while supplies last, and hear author Tricia Springstubb talk about her life and books at Schlafly Branch on March 16th.  Don’t forget that Reading Pays – Pass it On! and pass Cody and the Fountain of Happiness along to a friend.  Call 314.539.0380 for more information.
