Opera is story telling using all the senses. You can feel the resonance of a powerful voice, hear the sumptuous orchestral textures, see the sets and costumes. All transport you to a different place and time through the story tempting you to imagine the taste and smell of the circumstance. Union Avenue Opera's sopranos Tina Sayers and Elizabeth Ducey-Moss will be performing "Opera 101" with pianist Jody Clegg at Schlafly Library on Wednesday, August 15 at 7:00 pm. This program is meant to introduce people of all ages to the opera art form in a fun, easy to understand format. Everyone is encouraged to attend this free performance, as we explore the facts, fiction, and fantasy that make up the wonderful world of opera!
Next year Union Avenue Opera will celebrate it's 25th festival season of providing professional opportunities for gifted, emerging artists and offering vibrant and affordable opera experiences in original languages to audiences that reflect the breadth and diversity of the St. Louis region. UAO's home is the Union Avenue Church which is one block north of Delmar Boulevard on Union Avenue.
If your are intrigued by what you see at "Opera 101", UAO mounts is last show of the 2018 season with the Lost in the Stars based on the book Cry the Beloved Country about 1940s apartheid in South Africa. The music is by Kurt Weill. Lost in the Stars performances will be on August 17, 18, 24, 25 at 8:00 pm.
