1984 is a very interesting dystopian novel written in 1949 by George Orwell; the book was written based on what Orwell thought the world would be in 20 years. The book is set in Air Strip One (Great Britain) in 1984. In the book, there is an air of mystery around Big Brother and the Inner Party (the upper class citizens, or the ruling party). The story revolves around a man named Winston Smith, who lives in Airstrip One and is a member of the Outer Party (the middle/working class), Winston works at the Ministry of Truth as a history revisionist (he rewrites newspapers and books according to what Big Brother says is true). The government in 1984 is extremely authoritarian and monitors its citizens’ every move, and anybody who dares to speak against the government or Big Brother is killed. Throughout the story, Winston meets more and more people like him who wish to rebel against the government and overthrow Big Brother, whether or not he succeeds is for you to find out by reading the book!
