Creative Experience at Central Library

Creative Experience is a digital maker space. It is a platform for collaborative digital media creation and publishing. The space inspires ingenuity, encourages artistry, and cultivates expertise. Upon entering the Creative Experience, the user is presented with four Pods. Each Pod contains software and hardware that allows users to create, edit, and digitally publish audio, video, photo, print, and interactive content for the web.

Creative Experience also features a Recording Room. The room has a Mac with Pro Tools, Garage Band, Audacity, and Apple Logic Pro, as well as a mixer, speakers, three microphones, an eighty-eight key keyboard, and headphones. We encourage users to bring in their own instruments and we have numerous cables to connect them. In addition to recording music, users can record oral projects, such as podcasts, oral histories, or spoken word poetry.

Creative Experience appeals to pros and novices, alike. Users who know exactly what they are doing will walk in and find the required tools. Those without previous knowledge can walk in, view online tutorials, and learn how to fulfill their vision. Creative Experience is your space: Create.

Creative Experience and the Recording Room are open:
Monday-Thursday: 11am-7pm
Friday: 11am-5pm
Saturday: 12pm-5pm

In order to book and use a Pod or Recording Room, you’ll need your St. Louis Public Library card. All bookings can be made for up to a maximum of two hours.

There are three ways to book a Pod or the Recording Room in Creative Experience:

  • If there are open Pods, walk up and enter your card number and PIN to log on.
  • If there are no available Pods, book one for a future time with a staff member in Creative Experience.
  • If you would like to book ahead, please call the Computer Commons: 314-241-2288. You may book time for up to one week in advance.

If you are looking to book multiple Pods for a group, please contact cexp@slpl.org.
