Branch Manager |
| Education: |
MLS degree from an ALA Accredited Library School and a minimum of 3-5 years public library managerial experience. |
| Qualifications: |
The person in this position must have supervisory skills to manage the day-to-day operation of a neighborhood branch. It is essential that the person in this position be able to direct the activities of others while maintaining excellent customer relation skills. Must have superior abilities in the area of reference and readers advisory. Also, will have the knowledge of reference tools, bibliographic sources and classification systems and the ability to apply this knowledge to assigned areas of responsibility. Should possess excellent organizational skills; report writing skills and attention to detail. Additionally, operational support is needed in the areas of circulation, statistical reporting, opening and closing of the branch, collection development, making presentations and directing the daily branch operations. Must have strong professional skills in community outreach and adult programming. Should be able to meet deadlines and follow SLPL Policies and Procedures. Experience working with diverse populations is a plus. Verbal, written and computer skills are essential. Must have a willingness to provide customer service in a small but busy branch in a transitional neighborhood. |

Library Technician |
| Education: |
Associate Degree or completion of 2 years (60 semester hours) from an accredited college or university: or 4 years related library, teaching or equivalent experience. |
| Qualifications: |
The person filling this position will be responsible for providing assistance in the effective daily operation of the department to include: intermediate reference, interviewing assistance, instruction at an intermediate level on the use of computers, and help using other equipment in the department. Must have interpersonal, communication and problem-solving skills to answer reference questions, work in close proximity with co-workers, and deal with customer complaints. Must be capable of successfully performing the assigned functions and tasks in a timely and efficient manner.
Schedule: Mondays 9-6, Tuesday- Thursday 10:30-7, Fridays 9:30-6, every other Saturday 9-6 |

Must be able to lift or move up to 30lbs and have good customer service skills.

Youth Services Librarian |
| Education: |
MLS in Library Science required. Experience in youth services and storytelling skills desirable. Knowledge of child development and children’s literature is essential. |
| Qualifications: |
The person in this position schedules, plans and presents programs in the branch as well as in schools, head starts, daycares, parent and teacher groups, etc. Provides reference assistance to children and youth. Assists children and adults with computers, including Internet access. Position requires use of personal vehicle to travel to various locations for outreach programs. This position requires flexibility and good written and verbal communication skills. Must be able to work with children of all ages, and possess sound judgment. This individual must be able to establish rapport with co-workers, patrons and staff in daycare centers, headstarts, and busy neighborhood library serving a diverse multicultural clientele. Prepares deposit collections and assists with collection development and maintenance. Maintains statistics and community contacts. Supervises homework helpers and volunteers. Manages department in the absence of the Manager. May assists with system-wide projects as assigned and serve on Youth Services and system committees.
Schedule: Monday 9-6, Tuesday, Wednesday & Thursday 10-7, Alternating Friday and Saturday 9-6 |
