Summer Reading Club and Pageturners 2012

St. Louis, MO... The St. Louis Public Library is proud to kickoff its annual Summer Reading Clubs for kids and adults. This year all three clubs—kids, teens, and adults—begin on May 7 and continue through August 4. Readers can join at any St. Louis Public Library location.

This year’s overall reading theme is “Summer Nights and Dreaming.” Kids can Dream Big, teens can Own the Night, and adults can read Between the Covers. Parents can sign up their baby as a Baby Dreamer too. The kids and teens clubs start a month earlier than in years past (now at the same time as Pageturners, the reading club for adult and high school readers), giving everyone three full months to read and claim prizes.

To take part, readers should register ONCE at any St. Louis Public Library location. They’ll receive a reading log to keep track of the books or audiobooks that they complete. Adults also receive a reading log to keep track of the books, magazines, or audiobooks that they complete. Prizes include:

For Babies: Read five books and earn a sippy cup; read five more and earn a board book.

For Older Kids: Read five books and earn a mini-flashlight keychain and a glow-in-the-dark flying disc. Read ten books to win Cardinals baseball tickets (while supplies last), and a book for their home library. Kids can enter to win the Branch Prize (movie passes) and the Grand Prize (an iPod Touch).

For Teens: Read five books and earn a book light bookmark, a book for their home library, and Cardinals baseball tickets (while supplies last). Teens can enter to win the Branch Prize (an iPod Touch) and the Grand Prize (a Samsung Galaxy Tablet).

For Pageturners: Read ten books and earn a travel blanket, Cardinals baseball tickets (while supplies last), and the chance to win a laptop computer.

In keeping with the nighttime theme, the Saint Louis Zoo brings nocturnal animals to several Branches. Kids can enjoy making dream catchers, studying the constellations, mixing Glow-in-the-Dark Silly Putty, and more. The Magic House hosts Library Family Nights for Summer Reading Club members as well as presents hands-on science programs at every Branch. For adults, Pageturners programs focus on interpreting dreams, understanding sleep disorders, creating soothing teas, and night gardening.
