St. Louis, MO . . . The St. Louis Public Library is proud to present a pair of crowd-pleasing authors in December. Both events are FREE and open to the public.
* Popular St. Louis Post-Dispatch columnist Bill McClellan will sign his new book, Gently Down the Stream. The event takes place at the Schlafly Branch, 225 N. Gently Down the Stream is a new collection of 90 of McClellan’s favorite weekly columns that range from the heartfelt and whimsical to the feel-good and tragic. McClellan’s insight and self-deprecating humor have captured and engaged readers for decades, earning him a loyal following in St. Louis and beyond. * Jane Leavy will discuss and sign her new book, The Last Boy: Mickey Mantle and the End of America’s Childhood. The event takes place at the Schlafly Branch, 225 N. Euclid Ave., on December 9 at 7 p.m. The Last Boy is the definitive biography of Number 7, baseball legend Mickey Mantle. Leavy talked with Mantle in 1983 after he was banned from the sport because of his employment by casinos. She also interviewed more than 500 friends, family, teammates, and opponents to capture the spirit of an American original. The book weaves the tale of the country’s ultimate boy of summer, going beyond the myths surrounding The Mick to tell the tale of a remarkable talent with an equally troubled soul. Books available for purchase courtesy of Left Bank Books.
