This presentation is sponsored by Cricket Communications and Declare Yourself. The Declaration of Independence will be available for viewing by the public for ONE DAY ONLY at Central Library, 1301 Olive Street, on Saturday, July 26, from 10:30 a.m. to 7:30 p.m. Individuals will also have the opportunity to register to vote during the same time as well as view a multi-media exhibit about the document’s history and contemporary importance. Media may film B-roll and take still photos. No flash photography allowed.
The special day kicks off at 10 a.m. with Opening Ceremonies and remarks by dignitaries United States Congressman William Lacy Clay, Brad Johnson of Cricket Communications, and St. Louis Public Library Executive Director Waller McGuire.
This original copy of the Declaration of Independence is one of only 25 remaining copies. It was discovered in 1989 hidden behind a framed painting after producer and Declare Yourself founder Norman Lear purchased it at a flea market. Currently, this is the only copy of the Declaration of Independence that is traveling the country.
