Authors Heagney & Gosebrink @ Central
St. Louis, MO . . . The St. Louis Public Library will present Adele Heagney and Jean Gosebrink on Monday, January 28, at 7 p.m. at Central Library, 1301 Olive Street. Heagney and Gosebrink will discuss and sign copies of their book, Historic Photos of St. Louis. The event is FREE and open to the public. Books will be available for purchase.
Heagney and Gosebrink’s book is a photographic history of St. Louis that spotlights photographs collected from the area’s top archives. Photos include the Eads Bridge, the St. Louis World’s Fair of 1904, Busch Stadiums 1 and 2, Union Station, the aftermath of the 1896 tornado, Grant’s Hardscrabble, the Southern Hotel, and Forest Park.
The book details the historical growth of St. Louis from the early days of the camera to recent times. Spanning two centuries and nearly 200 images, it is a compelling look into the past for every St. Louis history buff.
Archives contributing to the publication include The Library of Congress, The Missouri State Archives, The National Archives and Records Administration, and the St. Louis Public Library.
Heagney is the St. Louis Public Library’s History Subject Specialist and works in the St. Louis Area Studies Center. She has master’s degrees in American history and library science from the University of Maryland.
Gosebrink is the Special Collections Specialist at the St. Louis Public Library. She has a master’s degree in library science from Indiana University and a master’s degree in African area studies from the University of California—Los Angeles.
