On November 5 at 7 p.m., Central Library, 1301 Olive Street, will host Wayne and Shirley Weigand as they discuss, Books on Trial: Red Scare in the Heartland, the sobering story of innocent people caught up in the hysteria of the times. The Weigands reveal how state power was used to trample individuals’ civil rights at a time when the nation was gripped by fear of foreign subversion. Books will be available for purchase courtesy of Left Bank Books.
At the Buder Branch, 4401 Hampton Avenue, on November 8 at 7 p.m., Belleville-area author Stephen McAllister discusses and signs his novella, Highland Equinox, the tale of a widowed bed-and-breakfast owner in Scotland who moves past her grief with the unwitting help of an American guest. Books will be available for purchase courtesy of the author.
Finally, on November 17 at 2 p.m. at the Kingshighway Branch, 2260 S. Vandeventer Avenue, Rosalie Fiorino Harpole discusses her cookbook Rosalie Serves Italian. The book contains 148 delicious Italian-American recipes with step-by-step teaching hints, family insights, and beautiful color photographs. Born and raised in the St. Louis area as the child of Italian immigrants, Harpole shared a love of cooking with her mother and began cooking at the age of eight. Books will be available for purchase courtesy of the author.
