City Library Presents Editors of Great Plains Originals
St. Louis, MO . . . The St. Louis Public Library presents a discussion with Brian Burnes, Monroe Dodd, and Tim Rives, editors of Great Plains Originals: Historic Documents From America’s Heartland. The event takes place on Monday, August 20 at 7 p.m. in Central Library’s Events Pavilion, 1301 Olive Street. The editors will sign copies of the books. Books will be available for purchase at the event. The event is FREE and open to the public.
Brian Burnes is an editor at the Kansas City Star and Monroe Dodd is a reporter at the same publication. Tim Rives is an archivist with the National Archives and Records Administration. The three collaborated to create Great Plains Originals: Historic Documents From America’s Heartland. From wild Westerners to patriots and protesters, the National Archives has opened its storehouse of American history in the 200 full-color pages of this book.
Great Plains Originals is packed with records about Buffalo Bill and Walt Disney, tarred-and-feathered farmers, aging Civil War veterans who had to register as enemy aliens, and scores of other gems of Americana that were all mined from the Central Plains Region Branch of the National Archives and assembled by the Archives from Kansas, Missouri, Iowa, Nebraska, Minnesota, and the Dakotas.
