Classical Guitarist Michael Nigro @ Schlafly
St. Louis, MO . . . The St. Louis Public Library is proud to present a concert and master class with classical guitarist Michael Nigro at the Schlafly Branch, 225 N. Euclid Ave., on Saturday, June 9. The concert begins at 2 p.m. with the master class taking place immediately afterward at 3 p.m. Both programs are FREE and open to the public. Seating is on a first-come, first-served basis.
Currently on tour in support of his new recording “Sounds of the South American Spirit,” Michael Nigro’s concert will feature works both by prominent as well as less known South American composers. The program is varied from folkloric dances and songs to sophisticated works full of colorful impressionism. His debut CD, “Homage to Piazzolla,” is available on the Music and Arts music label.
The American Record Guild writes, “It is a pleasant collection of spiky Argentine rhythms interspersed with soulful milongas. Nigro has a big sound, a smooth tone, and sure-footed interpretive instincts.”
Michael Nigro is an active member of the guitar community. He is co-founder of the Long Beach Classical Guitar Society, an independent reviewer for Soundboard Magazine, and a sought-after teacher and performer. He is currently on the faculty at Vanguard University in Costa Mesa, California, where he is the head of the Guitar Department.
