Author Jabari Asim @ Central
St. Louis, MO . . . The St. Louis Public Library is proud to present a book discussion and signing by St. Louis-born author and cultural commentator, Jabari Asim, author of The N Word: Who Can Say It, Who Shouldn’t, and Why. The event takes place at Central Library, 1301 Olive Street, on Monday, April 30 at 7 p.m. The program is FREE and open to the public. Seating is on a first-come, first-served basis.
In The N Word, Jabari Asim untangles the twisted history and future of racism through its most volatile word. He reveals how the N-word has both reflected and spread the scourge of bigotry in America over the four hundred years since it was first spoken on our shores. He concludes that only when we know its legacy can we loosen this slur’s grip on our national psyche.
Jabari Asim is deputy editor of the Washington Post Book World. He also writes a weekly syndicated column on popular culture. His writing has appeared in Essence, Salon, The Los Angeles Times, The Village Voice, The Hungry Mind Review, Emerge, and elsewhere. He lives in Maryland with his wife and five children.
