Video contests are becoming popular. They've become a word-of-mouth marketing tool for the companies that sponsor them. The odds are good for winning because you are up against fewer people than with other types of contests.

Here are some tips that will help you create that winning video and receive the grand prize.

  • Read the rules. Know the date you need to submit the video, what format it needs to be in, and how long the video can be.
  • Know the judging criteria. The guidelines will tell you what the judges are looking for and if your video will be judged by a panel or be voted by the public.
  • Write down all your ideas. You can convey your thoughts through a story or an emotion. Will you appeal to a certin audience? You can captivate your audience with laughter, courage, or sadness. Don't forget to use the sponsors product.
  • Practice your script. It can keep you on track for what you want to say and can help you know how long the video will run.
  • As you film your video consider using a simple color backdrop or a scenic outdoor location. Use good lighting and make several takes at different angles to get the perfect shot.

Don't have a video camera? Many cell phones have the ability to record video. Create a photo montage slideshow with digital pictures.

Once you have edited your video, show it off to family and friends. They can be your best critics. Make sure you've followed the contest rules. When you are satisfied with the end result submit your video. And good luck on winning the prize!
