Decks can be built in a variety of shapes. Depending upon the curves and angles used, they can be built to complement and accentuate amenities and landscaping. Additions, such as a pool, or a hot tub, can make a very relaxing deck.

In many instances, decks can become an outdoor extension of their adjacent interior rooms. Small benches, enclosed flower or shrub container can be used to beautify a deck. Decks can be simple in design, yet versatile in function.

When building a deck, keep in mind the local outdoor climate. A poorly positioned deck, climate-wise, could jeopardize your outdoor comfort. The direction of the sun, exposure to cool breezes, or shelter from blustery winds will determine the usefulness of a new deck.

Whether building a simple ground-level deck, or a multi-level custom creation, make sure to design a desk that is both attractive and safe. Select the best lumber, fasteners, and finishes to create the best deck. Use appropriate stairs and railings to complement both the styles of your deck, and your house.

Finally, remember that decks add value to your home. Besides providing an outdoor living space for your family, they can add to the selling price of your home. As well, finishing a "building your own deck" project will give you outdoor comfort and a sense of accomplishment.
