Shelby has just arrived in the area to stay with her uncle and cousins after the death of her mother.  She spent most of her late teens and early twenties caring for her terminally ill mother until her death.  Now, at twenty-five, she is ready to travel and go to school.

Shelby and Luke are instantly attracted to each other, but he tries to not get involved because at 38, he feels he is way too old and way to experienced for such a sheltered young woman.  She begs to differ.

Many of the familiar characters from previous book appear as Carr continues the story of this special small town.  Fans of Debbie Macomber's Cedar Cove series will love the Virgin River books.
