The meeting was called to order at 6:01 p.m. by Ms. North-Murphy.

Communications:

Mr. McGuire included an email from a patron who had taken computer and employment classes at Library locations which she credited with helping her find meaningful employment and thanked the Library for making available.

Executive Director's Report:

  • McGuire reported that a power outage caused by equipment failure closed Central Library February 22, 2018.

Cabanne Library had an incident of a patron assaulting a staff member, who got away from the assailant with the help of two other patrons. The location was on lock-down for a short time while police searched for and arrested the assailant in the area.

  • The Administrative Offices also had a short lock-down because of an incident with a Confluence student carrying a gun in the north building.
  • The Board was invited to visit the Powell Hall exhibit at Central and to attend the upcoming Symphony concert in the Great Hall later in the month.
  • The Catholic Sisters exhibit in the Carnegie Room was featured in a recent St. Louis Post-Dispatch "Go!" section cover and article.
  • Technology Services created a WAN to facilitate the work of the AARP tax help volunteers who hold sessions at several Library locations.
  • Eleven staff members are planning to attend the Public Library Association meeting in Philadelphia March 21-24.
  • Jackson presented the Financial Report.
  • Wiese presented the HR Report.
  • Reeves presented the Foundation Report.
  • McGuire stated that the Library received the January payment from Confluence

Academy, but not the February or March payments. When asked about the late

payments, Confluence said that their attorney told them not to send them. The Library's legal counsel is looking into the situation.

  • McGuire announced that Deputy Director Diane Freiennuth has announced her retirement date as early fall 2018.
